My Experience Using Windows Vista December 15, 2007

I’m going to write a large post soon about Windows Vista. I recently purchased a new machine with the following specs:
Abit AB9 Pro Motherboard
Core 2 Duo e6600 (2.4ghz, overclocked to 3ghz)
4gb Crucial DDR2-800 RAM (overclocked to match CPU)
Seagate 500gb .11 drive (one of the fastest drives available, comparable to a Raptor)
EVGA Geforce 8800 GTS SSC (640mb)
Soundblaster X-fi XtremeGamer with xram (silly)
Thermaltake PurePower 600W Power Supply
Samsung 226BW 22″ Widescreen LCD
Windows Vista 64bit Ultimate
One thing to note here is the use of 64bit Vista. I think I’m one of very few to take that challenge! You’ll be surprised to know that I’ve encountered 0 compatibility issues so far and that the system is surprisingly stable. However, I do get occasional crashes and blue screens, but that’s more due to my overclocking than anything else. The machine just blows past anything I can put it up against. Crysis is still surprisingly not 100% smooth on High settings, but in the end, it doesn’t look that awesome anyway.
Quick verdict on Vista? Love it. Runs great, has some fantastic improvements, and Service Pack 1 is almost ready for official release. More about that and my experience with Vista soon!
